“BharatNet” project is being implemented in Tamil Nadu by TANIFNET to connect all the 12525 Gram Panchayats with Optical Fibre cable to provide 1 Gbps bandwidth connectivity. Current BharatNet architecture is dependent on the Internet Service Provider (ISP) network for Backhaul (i.e., from Aggregation Block at District level to NOC) and further it does not extend the network to urban areas. This dependency may affect the utilization and monetization model for the network. A suitable network may be required to develop for this purpose say TamilNet Network. TamilNet is envisages to bridge this gap and to provide OFC connectivity to urban areas. TamilNet shall also act as the backhaul optical fiber infrastructure for BharatNet and would assist the Government of TamilNadu (GoTN) in achieving an Unified Digital infrastructure for the State, over which multiple services would be run for the benefit of the Citizens of the State.
With the above Background, TANFINET has engaged a Consulting agency (CA) for the preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) towards implementation of an Unified Digital Infrastructure combining TamilNet and BharatNet.
